Bugatti Type 57C Atalante, chassis 57733, is one of only 12 examples bodied in aluminium and was displayed by the French Government at the 1939 New York World's Fair. The car carries a supercharged drivetrain and Atalante coachwork assembled through a documented body swap, and it has a distinguished American ownership history including the hands of SCCA pioneer Al Garthwaite, who raced it on the East Coast in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Rediscovered after roughly 45 years in storage, it subsequently underwent a thorough nut-and-bolt restoration and has earned concours recognition including Best of Show honours.

  3. Modification

Bodies exchanged between chassis 57733 and 57766: the aluminium Atalante coachwork was moved onto the supercharged 57766 chassis, creating a blown Atalante on the more desirable late-specification running gear.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
