Campaigned by Ken Miles and Bob Bondurant during the 1963 USRRC season, it contributed to Shelby American's manufacturer and driver championship victories that year. Following a distinguished racing career, the car was comprehensively restored to its original Ken Miles #98 Works livery and has since earned recognition at prestigious international concours events.

Finished in red with a black interior; notably lacked the 'elbow cut' doors present on other Works chassis.

  2. 1967

Work carried out under Bruce Goldsmith's ownership in Beverly Hills.

  3. 1984
    Bodywork

Body stripped to bare aluminium; fiberglass additions to the front coachwork — believed to date from the racing career — were removed and replaced with aluminium panels where necessary. Car was refinished in dark blue.

Carried out under Thomas Long's instruction; the car was subsequently used lightly and shown for approximately a decade after this work.

  4. 1995Restoration
    Mike McCluskey

Full, meticulous ground-up restoration returning the car to its original 1963 Ken Miles number 98 Works appearance and factory-correct mechanical specification.

McCluskey was a recognised Cobra authority based in Torrance, California; the restoration was commissioned by Thomas Long and subsequently validated by a Gold Award at SAAC in 2005.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
