The 1969 Chevrolet Corvette ZL-1 Convertible (chassis 710209) is one of only two factory-built ZL-1 Corvettes ever produced and the sole convertible among them. Powered by a pre-production variant of the all-aluminium 427 cubic-inch ZL-1 engine mated to an automatic gearbox, it was delivered in December 1968 to drag racer John W. Maher, who campaigned it extensively across Western Pennsylvania before a comprehensive restoration by Corvette Repair Inc. earned it Bloomington Gold certification in 2014. The car later spent time on display at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia.

    West Penn Garage

A fan shroud with clutch fan was retrofitted per a GM service bulletin issued to the originating dealer, addressing overheating first observed on L88/M40-equipped cars.

Required by a GM internal service directive; documented in GM files on record with the car.

Following a period of storage, the car was entrusted to Bill Andrejko Auto Restorations for a comprehensive restoration ahead of Maher's planned return to competition and exhibition.

Work was completed prior to the car's public unveiling at the 1991 National Corvette Homecoming. Workshop located in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

  5. 2012Restoration
    Corvette Repair Inc.

The consignor commissioned Kevin Mackay's Corvette Repair Inc. to carry out a detailed restoration. Disassembly revealed the car to be in remarkably original condition aside from the previously replaced engine. It was refinished in correct Monaco Orange paint with a black vinyl interior, using a factory-correct, early date-coded all-aluminium ZL-1 engine.

Work completed in time for the 2014 Bloomington Gold event. Workshop located in Valley Stream, New York, and regarded as the leading restorer of historically significant Corvettes.
