The 1969 Chevrolet Corvette ZL-1 Convertible (chassis 710209) is one of only two factory-built ZL-1 Corvettes ever produced and the sole convertible among them. Powered by a pre-production variant of the all-aluminium 427 cubic-inch ZL-1 engine mated to an automatic gearbox, it was delivered in December 1968 to drag racer John W. Maher, who campaigned it extensively across Western Pennsylvania before a comprehensive restoration by Corvette Repair Inc. earned it Bloomington Gold certification in 2014. The car later spent time on display at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia.

Purchased new from West Penn Garage in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, trading in a 1968 L88 Corvette. Used the car extensively for drag racing, hillclimbs, and autocross events across Western Pennsylvania, and later for concours exhibition after a restoration in 1989.

At the point of sale, the car was fitted with a pair of free-flow side exhaust pipes and a spare 4.11:1 rear axle assembly to prepare it for drag racing use.

A fan shroud with clutch fan was retrofitted per a GM service bulletin issued to the originating dealer, addressing overheating first observed on L88/M40-equipped cars.

The original short-block assembly, damaged during racing, was replaced under warranty by Chevrolet with a replacement short-block unit.

Following a period of storage, the car was entrusted to Bill Andrejko Auto Restorations for a comprehensive restoration ahead of Maher's planned return to competition and exhibition.
Work was completed prior to the car's public unveiling at the 1991 National Corvette Homecoming. Workshop located in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

The consignor commissioned Kevin Mackay's Corvette Repair Inc. to carry out a detailed restoration. Disassembly revealed the car to be in remarkably original condition aside from the previously replaced engine. It was refinished in correct Monaco Orange paint with a black vinyl interior, using a factory-correct, early date-coded all-aluminium ZL-1 engine.
Work completed in time for the 2014 Bloomington Gold event. Workshop located in Valley Stream, New York, and regarded as the leading restorer of historically significant Corvettes.
