Naturally aspirated 3.9L V12, transversely mid-mounted, sharing casting with five-speed transaxle; rebuilt with forged pistons and rebalanced rotating assembly

'Arancia Miura' (orange), repainted from original 'Rosso Miura' (red)

Chassis 3057 is among the earliest Lamborghini Miura P400s produced, being the 39th example to leave Sant'Agata Bolognese and one of the lighter 'thin-chassis' cars built from thinner-gauge steel. Originally delivered in Rosso Miura to a Los Angeles buyer in 1967, it subsequently passed through only two further private owners before undergoing a documented, multi-year restoration costing in excess of $700,000, overseen by respected marque specialists. The car has earned major concours honours including Best of Show at Concorso Italiano on two separate occasions.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. 2015
    Inspection

Formal post-purchase assessment of the car's overall condition and originality carried out by Valentino Balboni, who confirmed intact original alloy coachwork, glass, and mechanical components.

Conducted on behalf of the consignor immediately following acquisition; findings helped guide the subsequent restoration brief.

  2. 2015Restoration
Jeff Stephan (Mr. Miura) in collaboration with Debbie Motors, Palmer Coachworks, Hot Rods and Hobbies, BB Stile, and Ed Pink Racing Engines

A ground-up, no-expense-spared restoration covering bodywork, chassis, mechanicals, and interior, with documented expenditure exceeding $700,000. The original Bertone coachwork was found to be free of accident damage and corrosion; the chassis was subtly reinforced to improve panel fit. The interior was retrimmed using factory-correct materials sourced from Italy. Period-correct Pirelli Cinturato tyres reproduced for the model's 50th anniversary were fitted.

Project was organised by Jeff Stephan and managed with mechanical execution by Debbie Sidera of Debbie Motors. Andy Palmer of Palmer Coachworks led coachwork. Restoration completed by 2017 per invoices on file.

  3. 2015Bodywork
    Palmer Coachworks

Coachwork was carefully preserved and the chassis subtly reinforced to correct panel alignment; no replacement of original body panels was required given the absence of prior accident damage or corrosion. All original body number stampings were confirmed intact throughout.

Andy Palmer led this element of the broader restoration; the goal was improved panel fit without altering the car's visual character.

  4. 2015Engine rebuild
    Ed Pink Racing Engines

The original matching-numbers V-12 was fully disassembled and rebuilt; cast pistons were exchanged for forged short-skirt graphite-coated units, and the entire rotating assembly was blueprinted and balanced. Weber carburettors were overhauled by Jeff Stephan, and the factory P400 oiling configuration was reinstated.

Engine rebuild formed part of the comprehensive 2015–2017 restoration programme; reverting to the P400 oiling layout reversed the earlier SV dry-sump modification.

  5. 2015Mechanical
    Jeff Stephan (Mr. Miura)

The original Armstrong shock absorbers and five-speed transaxle were fully rebuilt. Replacement components were sourced from Lamborghini Polo Storico to ensure period accuracy.

Part of the comprehensive 2015–2017 restoration; Polo Storico parts sourcing was intended to satisfy the requirements of major concours judging.

  6. Modification

An SV-specification dry-sump lubrication system was fitted to replace the standard P400 oiling arrangement, intended to improve oil management under hard driving conditions.

Carried out at some point prior to 2015; the prose does not confirm whether this was done by Aberman or the original owner.

  7. Service
    Jeff Stephan (Mr. Miura)

Ongoing mechanical maintenance carried out throughout Dr. Aberman's 37-year ownership, described as executed with exceptional diligence to support regular high-speed use.

No specific service episodes are individually dated; this represents a prolonged maintenance relationship during the Aberman ownership period ending in 2015.
