Engine
4.7L (289 cu in) V8, Holley carb, electronic ignition, ~350 bhp
Colour
Red

The De Tomaso Mangusta, launched in 1967 with striking Giugiaro bodywork and a provocative name aimed at the Shelby Cobra, was produced in just 401 examples, of which only 150 reached European customers. This late-production European car was delivered new to Greece with the more powerful 289 cu. in. Ford V8 and the desirable four-headlight nose, registered in February 1972. After minimal use by its first owner, it passed to collector Marios Stafylopatis before a comprehensive restoration in 1997 changed its colour to red and upgraded the engine to approximately 350 bhp. Imported to the United Kingdom in 2012, it retains a notable collection of original documentation and rare factory accessories.

Full comprehensive restoration carried out, during which the original dark blue bodywork was repainted to the current red. The engine was upgraded with a Holley carburettor, electronic ignition system, and a lighter flywheel, raising output to around 350 bhp, and drilled disc brakes were fitted to match the increased performance.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
