A German-specification 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring (M472), finished in Light Yellow with a black leatherette and corduroy interior, built in May 1973 and collected directly from the factory. The car was reportedly used in early Dutch rallying before reaching the United States, where it passed through several prominent collectors before being acquired by a Colorado couple active in Porsche Club of America events. Between 2008 and 2015, a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration costing approximately $200,000 was completed by marque specialist Steve Rowe, including a rebuilt engine with correct OEM components and a replacement transaxle.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. 2008Restoration
    Rowe Performance / 3R Automotive

Comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration commenced; the body shell was placed on a rotisserie, stripped to bare metal, found to be largely rust-free, and fully prepped and repainted. Numerous OEM Porsche RS-specific parts no longer in general supply were sourced. A fresh interior was fabricated and fitted. The original transaxle case, damaged by corrosion and worn beyond legibility of its stampings, was replaced with a sound 1973 unit that was rebuilt. The engine was rebuilt with correct OEM Mahle pistons and cylinders. Total receipts reached approximately $200,000; work concluded in summer 2015.

Body preparation and paint carried out by Bob Raub at 3R Automotive in Englewood, Colorado; mechanical and drivetrain work by Steve Rowe of Rowe Performance, also in Englewood. Interior by Auto Weave Upholstery, Denver. Project was initiated by Jerry Schouten and completed by Arnette Schouten following Jerry's death in 2013.

  2. Engine rebuild
    Stoddard

Original engine developed crankcase faults; a new unnumbered replacement crankcase was sourced from Stoddard and the original case number was restamped onto it.

Work carried out shortly after January 1991 acquisition by the Schoutens.

  3. Bodywork
    Auto Weave Upholstery

Interior re-trimmed in black leatherette with corduroy centre panels; original factory seats replaced with deeper sport seats reupholstered to match the original colour scheme.

Part of the 2008–2015 restoration programme.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
