1938 H.R.G. Airline Coupé (factory one-off prototype coupé)

WT68prototypeUnited Kingdom
Engine
1.5L OHV inline-four, 55 bhp, sourced from Triumph Gloria

The sole factory-built coupe ever produced by H.R.G., this one-off machine was commissioned in 1938 by company co-founder Major E.A. Halford. Its construction blended a Triumph Gloria 1.5-litre engine and gearbox with a widened Halford Special racing chassis, while its coachwork joined the rear section of an MG PA Airline coupe to bespoke front metalwork by A. Crofts. The car's relative luxury caused internal conflict at H.R.G., ultimately contributing to Halford's departure from the firm. After decades of private use, it was comprehensively restored between 2000 and 2010 and subsequently collected multiple concours awards.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
