1937 Jaguar SS 100 3½-Litre Sports Tourer

18066roadUnited Kingdom
Engine
3.5L inline-six OHV (post-war engine, 'S'-prefix, fitted in place of original 2.5L unit)

A 1937 Jaguar SS 100, chassis 18066, one of only 314 examples produced and originally built as a 2½-litre model before receiving a post-war 3½-litre engine. Delivered new to Henlys of London as a demonstrator and show car, it later passed through American ownership — apparently associated with a Pasadena, California resident — before returning to the UK around 1990. Following acquisition, the late owner carried out substantial bodywork and mechanical work, after which the car was used occasionally at shows and rallies before entering long-term storage in a purpose-built, climate-controlled facility.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. Restoration

Substantial work carried out on both the bodywork and mechanical components following acquisition in 1990; invoices on file reference parts for a post-war 3½-litre engine, and photographs show the body removed and running gear dismantled.

Work commissioned by the late owner after purchase at auction in February 1990; the engine fitted carries an 'S'-prefix number consistent with a 1947 3½-litre unit.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
