Aston Martin DB4 (chassis DB4/398/L) is a left-hand-drive example delivered new to Willametta Keck Day, heiress to the Superior Oil Company fortune and noted California sportswoman, finished originally in Peony with black Connolly leather. After decades of garage storage following a 1980 sale, the car was acquired by a European owner who commissioned a thorough restoration, retaining the original engine and aluminium bodywork while refinishing in Light Metallic Green with White Gold upholstery.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. Repair

Shortly after initial delivery, paint defects were corrected and a stiff door was adjusted by the supplying dealer.

Carried out at the request of the first owner, Willametta Keck Day, on multiple return visits to the dealer.

  2. Restoration

Comprehensive restoration carried out in Italy: paint stripped using water, original aluminium body panels removed from the frame and repaired with new metal to address lower-panel corrosion, then refinished in Light Metallic Green (1338). Interior re-trimmed in White Gold (VM 3323) upholstery. Wheels replaced with new items; original chrome rims retained and supplied with the car. Original engine retained.

Commissioned by the European owner following approximately 30 years of garage storage. New colour scheme selected by reference to original factory materials.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
