Chassis 57589 is a unique 1938 Bugatti Type 57 cabriolet bodied by the Brussels coachbuilder D'Ieteren — the only three-seat example constructed in the Aravis style by that firm. Built to the personal specifications of its first owner, who was unusually tall, the car features roll-up windows and a low-profile folding hood. Its documented history includes ownership by the celebrated Fauvist painter André Derain and retention of original major components including the twin-cam straight-eight engine, chassis frame, and one-off coachwork.

  3. 2015Inspection
    Scott Sargent

Comprehensive condition survey by respected Bugatti authority Scott Sargent following the consignor's acquisition, assessing original components and overall state of preservation.

Survey findings led the consignor to opt for a conservative, originality-focused approach rather than a full restoration.

  4. Service
    Pichler GFG AG Classic Center

Regular maintenance carried out over a five-year period by Swiss classic-car specialist Pichler GFG AG Classic Center on behalf of owner Theodore Angelopoulos.

Invoices retained in the documentation file; work spanned approximately 2010–2015.

  5. Restoration
    Scott Sargent

Limited cosmetic refurbishment decided upon after the Sargent survey: interior and hood re-trimmed, coachwork refinished in a two-tone black-and-maroon scheme, and original mechanical components serviced as required. Original structural elements including firewall and traces of undercarriage paint were deliberately preserved.

Restoration invoices from Sargent are included in the documentation; scope was intentionally restricted to protect surviving originality.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
