7/C/238racingUnited Kingdom

Chassis 7/C/238 is a 1960 TVR Grantura Mk II, one of four factory-built lightweight development cars constructed specifically for competition. Registered AUD 100 in October 1960, it features a strengthened chassis, thin-shell fibreglass bodywork, alloy 'Wobbly-Web' wheels, a tuned Coventry-Climax engine, and close-ratio gearbox. It competed in British national motorsport during the early 1960s, lay dormant for roughly two decades, and was subsequently restored to original Works specification. Today it is actively raced in Pre-'64 GT historic competition across Europe and holds valid FIA HTP papers.

Competition

  1. 1961
    1961 Lombank Trophy
    Driver: John Woolfe

Period records indicate some uncertainty over whether this chassis or its close sister car 1226 RO was the machine Woolfe actually drove at Snetterton.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. 2013
    Restoration

Complete ground-up rebuild returning the car to original Works specification, incorporating updated safety and reliability standards for front-running historic racing. Both the lightweight chassis and original bodywork were found to be in remarkably sound condition and required only minimal attention.

Commissioned by the specialist-restorer owner following purchase in 2013; the survival of original factory components in such good condition was noted as exceptional for a period-raced Works car.

  2. Service
    MRM Motorsport

Ongoing maintenance and preparation to current competitive specifications carried out regardless of cost, keeping the car race-ready for historic events.

    Undertaken during current ownership period.

  3. Engine rebuild
    J Whitehurst

Fresh Coventry-Climax race engine installed, built by J Whitehurst, supplied with the car for its next owner.

Engine is described as ready to race at the time of the auction.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
