1957 Chevrolet Corvette SS Project XP-64

MVIN215923IND

The Corvette SS (internally designated Project XP-64) was a purpose-built Chevrolet racing prototype developed in 1956–1957 under the direction of Zora Arkus-Duntov, with backing from GM design chief Harley Earl and Chevrolet General Manager Ed Cole. Constructed in a skunkworks environment at the Chevrolet Engineering Center, the car featured a chrome-molybdenum tubular truss frame, de Dion rear suspension, inboard rear brakes, and a magnesium body — representing an ambitious attempt to field a factory-supported all-American contender against Ferrari, Jaguar, Maserati, and Aston Martin on the world racing stage.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
