1929 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Riviera by Brewster

390XHroadUnited States

Chassis 390XH is a Springfield-built Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost carrying one of ten Brewster Riviera bodies and, uniquely among them, the only example constructed on a Silver Ghost rather than a Phantom I platform. Delivered in December 1929 to New York industrialist Augustine Leftwich Humes with bespoke embroidered upholstery and Venetian mahogany inlays, it passed through several distinguished American collectors including noted Rolls-Royce authority Dr. Erle M. Heath and golfer Gene Littler. Never fully restored, the car has been preserved in largely original condition and has earned multiple concours honours.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. Bodywork

The car received a repaint at some point in its history; aside from this, the body and interior have remained largely in their original state.

The prose emphasises that the vehicle was never subjected to a full restoration and is best characterised as a preserved example.

  2. Service

Light freshening work carried out after leaving the Patton collection and ahead of the 2012 Amelia Island concours appearance.

Scope of work not detailed beyond general preparation for showing.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
