CSX 2093 is a 1963–64 AC Cobra 289 that became the most decorated drag-racing Cobra in NHRA history. Originally delivered to Pennsylvania as a standard roadster, it was independently prepared to Dragonsnake specification by Bruce Larson for owner Jim Costilow, then repainted in a vivid Fuchsia Metallic. The car won seven NHRA National events and the 1967 NHRA World Points Championship across the A, AA, B, and C Sports classes, prompting Shelby American to withdraw factory support from its own Dragonsnake programme. Fully restored to fuchsia livery in 1991, it carries AACA Race Car Certification and an SCCA Letter of Authenticity.

Work overseen by Bruce Larson, then employed at a local Chevrolet dealership; the preparation process was documented in the October 1965 issue of Super Stock magazine. Cost was reportedly close to the car's original purchase price.

    Commissioned by Ed Ulyate.

  4. Bodywork

Original red paintwork replaced with 31 coats of Fuchsia Metallic, giving the car its distinctive and immediately recognisable competition appearance.

Carried out sometime after the first drag season but before the car's main run of NHRA victories.

  5. Bodywork

Car refinished in light green following retirement from strip competition.

Occurred during the period when the car had passed to Oklahoma, likely in the mid-1970s.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
