Signal Red (originally opalescent bronze)

A 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 flat-floor Roadster dispatched in November 1961 to its first owner in Los Angeles, originally in opalescent bronze over beige. Retaining its original Moss gearbox and bellows-type brakes as built at Browns Lane, the car passed through two further California owners before a New Jersey period and eventual export to Sweden in 2009. A light restoration was subsequently carried out in the UK, and the car is accompanied by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. Engine rebuild

The engine was overhauled during the second California owner's tenure, alongside a colour change to Signal Red and an interior retrim in black leather.

Work carried out sometime between 1975 and 2007.

  2. Bodywork

Exterior refinished in Signal Red, replacing the original opalescent bronze, and the interior retrimmed in black leather.

Carried out during the same ownership period as the engine rebuild, between 1975 and 2007.

  3. Restoration

A sympathetic, light-scope restoration was performed in the UK following Jan Mannerhag's acquisition and export to Sweden, after which the car has seen very little use.

Carried out after 2009; the original Moss gearbox and bellows brakes were retained.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
