Subsequently campaigned by Ron Bucknum at the 1969 Indianapolis 500 and by Arnie Knepper and Precision Racing through 1975, the car spent decades in storage before its current owner undertook a meticulous multi-year restoration to 1968 Riverside specification, earning an Amelia Award at the 2005 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

    J&J Balancing

A period-correct Traco-built block was sourced and paired with the correct intake manifold to match the 1968 Riverside racing specification; the completed unit was dyno-tested at approximately 525 bhp and then preserved for static display.

Locating both the correct block and intake manifold required an extensive search as part of the restoration research project.

    Restoration

Comprehensive ground-up restoration including a bare-chassis repaint in period Sunoco Blue with hand-painted yellow striping and lettering, full reconditioning of suspension and brake components, gearbox reconfiguration to road-racing specification, and fitting of a new windshield.

Multi-year project completed in late 2004; all elements were restored, repaired, or remade as required to return the car to its 1968 appearance.

  4. Modification

Car repowered with Chevrolet engines when it passed to Precision Racing for the 1974–1975 USAC seasons.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
