Chassis 406, an All American Racers Eagle built for USAC Indy-car competition, was originally acquired by Roger Penske in 1968 as the team's first Champ Car, driven by Mark Donohue in road-racing events at Mosport and Riverside. Subsequently campaigned by Ron Bucknum at the 1969 Indianapolis 500 and by Arnie Knepper and Precision Racing through 1975, the car spent decades in storage before its current owner undertook a meticulous multi-year restoration to 1968 Riverside specification, earning an Amelia Award at the 2005 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.

A period-correct Traco-built block was sourced and paired with the correct intake manifold to match the 1968 Riverside racing specification; the completed unit was dyno-tested at approximately 525 bhp and then preserved for static display.
Locating both the correct block and intake manifold required an extensive search as part of the restoration research project.

Comprehensive ground-up restoration including a bare-chassis repaint in period Sunoco Blue with hand-painted yellow striping and lettering, full reconditioning of suspension and brake components, gearbox reconfiguration to road-racing specification, and fitting of a new windshield.
Multi-year project completed in late 2004; all elements were restored, repaired, or remade as required to return the car to its 1968 appearance.
