1964 Ferrari 275 GTB

08311roadItaly
Engine
Mid-front V12 with six Weber carburettors, torque-tube specification
Colour
Nero (black)

Ferrari 275 GTB chassis 08311 holds a singular place in the model's history as the first example built combining aluminium coachwork, six Weber carburettors, and torque-tube transmission — and only the second 275 GTB fitted with a torque tube at all. Delivered new in rare Nero over Beige leather through a Florence dealer, it passed through Italian and Californian ownership before spending nearly four decades in a prominent Italian private collection. Following acquisition by its most recent owner it was shipped to Britain, received Ferrari Classiche certification, and underwent a thorough restoration returning it to original specification.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. Bodywork

Car was repainted from its original Nero to red with a black interior, believed to have occurred in California in the mid-1970s.

Approximate date derived from the prose indicating it happened in the same year the 31,000 km odometer reading was noted, which was two years after the 1973 US import.

  2. Restoration

A prior restoration was carried out while the car was in the United States; photographs of this work are part of the accompanying history file.

Scope and date unknown; documented only by photographs in the history file.

  3. Inspection
    Ferrari Classiche

Ferrari Classiche certification obtained following the car's arrival in the United Kingdom.

Certification confirmed the car's authenticity and original specification.

  4. Bodywork
    SMDG Ferrari specialists

Red paint stripped back to bare aluminium bodywork, which was found to be undamaged and original, then refinished in the correct original Nero shade. Chrome trim was fully reconditioned and polished. Paintwork executed by Steve Moody.

Work carried out in Horsham, West Sussex.

  5. Restoration

Interior fully stripped and retrimmed in the original Beige leather. Correct ten-hole knock-off wheels refurbished and fitted with period-correct Michelin XWX tyres. A new period-correct exhaust system was installed and the suspension was comprehensively rebuilt.

Part of the broader UK restoration programme undertaken by the current owner.

  6. Engine rebuild
    Riverside Performance

A complete top-to-bottom engine rebuild was performed by specialist technician Aldo Ritti.

Work carried out in Esher, Surrey.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
