B20 2065roadItaly

Chassis #2065 is a 1952 Lancia Aurelia B20GT Series II, one of 731 examples of that series produced, combining the lighter 2-litre V6 with the preferred independent rear suspension. Long held by a single American owner from 1961 to 2016, the car shows clear evidence of extensive rally use. Following purchase at US auction, it underwent a comprehensive rebuild by UK marque specialists Thornley Kelham, emerging as a thoroughly prepared machine capable of competitive historic rallying.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. Modification

Rally-specific modifications were carried out at some point during the car's American ownership, consistent with sustained competitive use over several decades.

Exact date and nature of individual modifications unknown; inferred from physical evidence observed by Thornley Kelham on arrival.

  2. Restoration
    Thornley Kelham

Comprehensive rebuild carried out by Thornley Kelham covering structural bodywork (notably sills), full electrical rewire, and rebuilding of engine, transmission, suspension, and brakes. Fuel and cooling systems were also overhauled. A correct Series II replacement engine was sourced and rebuilt from new components, fitted with an original Nardi carburettor upgrade kit. Interior was upgraded with rally seats, rubber mats and seals, supplementary instrumentation, and enhanced safety equipment. Exterior paintwork was retained as found.

Total expenditure by the vendor exceeded £180,000. The original 2-litre unit was deemed beyond economical repair, necessitating a period-correct replacement engine.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
