1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider

0366AMracingItaly
Engine
4.5L V12 Lampredi long-block, twin magnetos, triple Weber 40 IF4/C carburetors

Chassis 0366 AM is the ninth of 26 Ferrari 375 MM sports-racers produced, and the only example to receive coachwork by Sergio Scaglietti — a body that prefigured themes later seen in the 410 Sport and Testa Rossa. Completed in late 1953 and delivered to Portuguese privateer Casimiro de Oliveira, the car raced in Portugal and Scandinavia before crash damage led to its unique Scaglietti re-body in late 1954. It subsequently competed in Finnish and Swedish events, passed through several Scandinavian and British owners, received a Graypaul Motors restoration in the UK, and has since been exhibited at Pebble Beach, the Cavallino Classic, and the Mille Miglia Storica.

Maintenance & restoration

  1. 1954Repair

Nose damage sustained in the Casablanca practice crash was repaired at the Ferrari factory in Maranello in early 1954.

  2. 1954Bodywork
    Scaglietti

Following irreparable bodywork damage from the Skarpnäck crash, the car was sent to Scaglietti for entirely new coachwork — the only 375 MM to receive Scaglietti bodywork. The new spider featured wider, lower lines with bulbous front fenders, a compact protruding grille, and a driver's head fairing.

The resulting design is regarded as a stylistic precursor to the 410 Sport and Testa Rossa.

  3. Modification

Under Gunnar Fristedt's ownership, the front bodywork was altered to incorporate a twin-nostril shark-nose design inspired by the Dino 268 SP racing car.

Carried out sometime before the 1969 Malmö show.

  4. Restoration
    Graypaul Motors

A full restoration was carried out in the United Kingdom by Graypaul Motors, restoring the car after its passage through several Scandinavian owners.

Work performed by David Clarke's operation; precise date not stated.

Comprehensive preparation for historic touring use was undertaken by Fossil Motorsports, readying the car for events including the Mille Miglia Storica.

Workshop operated by Frank Triarsi; the catalogue text is truncated and full scope of work is not detailed.

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
