The Kurtis Aguila (chassis 62-S1) is a unique 1962 American sports-racing special commissioned by Texas racer Herb Stelter and believed to be among the last cars designed by Frank Kurtis, the five-time Indianapolis 500-winning constructor. Built around a chrome-moly ladder frame with Halibrand disc brakes and a quick-change rear end, the car features a removable pontoon-fender body allowing conversion between sports-car and open-wheel configuration. Powered by a triple-carbureted Corvette V-8, it raced in the 1960s before restoration and a successful historic racing career in the 1990s.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.
