DB4GT/0168/L is one of nine Aston Martin DB4GT Lightweights, the last and sole left-hand-drive example among the first five built, and one of just three left-hand-drive cars made to the true Lightweight specification. Completed in February 1961 for North American export, it retains its original engine and gearbox. After passing through several American owners, it was twice owned by Charlie Turner — Aston Martin's longest-serving US dealer franchisee — who began a meticulous restoration before his death in 1990. Subsequently restored by Steel Wings of Pennsylvania, the car has seen both vintage competition and long-distance rallying.

Charlie Turner commenced a thorough restoration covering bodywork refinishing and complete chassis and suspension rebuilding. The project was left incomplete at his death in 1990, with engine and drivetrain not yet reinstalled.

Work halted abruptly when Turner died suddenly; the car remained in this unfinished state until 2001.

Scope included rebuilding and blueprinting the original engine, fitting a roll bar, and at some stage replacing the original sliding Plexiglas windows with glass door windows. Original chassis plate and matching numbers retained throughout.

Work commissioned by Jack Boxstrom; facility is based in Ivyland, Pennsylvania, and specialises in Aston Martin service and restoration. Completed circa 2003.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
