A faithful replica of AMG's celebrated 'Red Pig' racing saloon, built on an accident-free 1969 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3. The original car — a heavily modified 300 SEL with a 6.8-litre, 420 bhp engine, aluminium doors, widened track, and flared arches — famously finished second overall at the 1971 Spa 24 Hours. While the original was destroyed during aircraft testing, this replica was constructed by Mercedes-Benz specialist Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors in Böblingen, Germany, and has covered fewer than 800 km since its conversion.

An undamaged 1969 300 SEL 6.3 was comprehensively converted into a 'Red Pig' replica, replicating the original AMG competition car's specification including engine enlargement, aluminium doors, widened track, larger tyres, and flared wheel arches.

Work carried out in Böblingen, Germany, by a recognised Mercedes-Benz specialist.

Are you the owner of this car?

This car's public record is built from its auction and competition history. Register your ownership and privately add your own records to make it a verified Legacy Metrics passport — provenance that backs your car's value at sale and gives your insurer evidence to price against. Roy reviews and verifies every registration personally.

Each chassis record is compiled from public auction archives and links to its source material. Ownership, competition and maintenance entries are extracted from those catalogue listings by an LLM, which can make mistakes — please contact us with any corrections. The summary is Legacy Metrics’ own writing; we do not reproduce catalogue text.

“Full” and “partial” documentation labels indicate how well each entry is corroborated in the underlying sources, not an audit of the car’s physical paperwork. Names of recent or living owners are withheld for privacy.
