Chassis 0557GT is one of the earliest Ferrari 250 GT Berlinettas bodied by Scaglietti, belonging to the inaugural nine-car run of the model. It was campaigned from October 1956 by Alfonso de Portago as part of his official Scuderia Ferrari programme, most notably securing victory at the 1956 Tour de France Auto — the first of four consecutive 250 GT wins at that event — and subsequently taking the Coupes du Salon and the Coupes du USA in April 1957, cementing the model's enduring association with the Tour de France.
