Chassis AM101.678 is one of approximately five prototype Maserati 3500 GT Spyders bodied by Carrozzeria Vignale, assembled in late October 1959 and distinguished from production cars by its unusual angular sweep-spear fender vents. Delivered in early 1960 to American sportsman and Indianapolis 500 entrant Lindsey Hopkins, the car passed through several American and Australian hands before receiving a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment in Australia. A further sympathetic restoration costing over $198,000 was completed after its 2014 acquisition at RM Sotheby's Monterey sale.
